hi guys
my exams r over
but cant say tat i'll blog more
this time,
i would like to discuss with you about
Tigers
yes
for those who know me well
u should know that i love tigers
so i have been checking up on
what was happening to them recently
n i happen to chance upon this
newspaper article about them
before tat,
let me ask u guys some questions:
What r tigers to u?
r they nothing but animals?
r they jus something which r meant for us to kill?
or, u jus dont bother?
oh tigers r found all around the world!
Singapore only have 3, we dont interact much with them
we dont even have any encounters with tigers!
SO WHY BOTHER?!
oh look a good tiger is one whose fur is being made into a coat or a handbag.
Is that it?
is that what u people have been thinking?!
can all of u humans please, and i said please please
stop thinking about yourself
please wake up
open your eyes
n see what's happening to the tigers
what's happening to the other endangered species
what's happening to Earth
n then, ask yourself what have you been doing?
i chance upon this article during my exam period
(which means one week ago)
i was studying when my sis took e article n showed it to me
i read it
the first words which i saw was "call of the tiger no longer heard"
as i read on,
i my mind went blank,
i was shocked
afraid, not for me, but for the tigers
i felt really hopeless then
really really hopeless
it was a terrible feeling
this was what i read:
"the call of the tiger is no longer heard in the apparently pristine forests of Khao Yai National park"
"india has roughly one-third of the remaining wild tigers. but in recent years tigers have completely disappeared from two tiger reserves in india."
"estimates put the number of tigers in the wild across the 13 countries at 3,000-3,600. down from 5,000-7,000 in the last Year of the Tiger"
"many tigers r in small populations in remnant patches of habitat, constantly under threat and short of prey. poaches not only kill the tigers, but also their prey as well."
"small populations are genetically vulnerable."
"this Year of the Tiger, the fate of the wild tiger hangs by a thread."
people have been trying to help the wild tigers
but their numbers just kept declining
not slowly, but rapidly.
some had foresee that by the next Year of the Tiger
some subspecies of the tigers will be extinct
extinct! do u think that extinction is not a big deal?
extinction is jus losing the whole species of animals?
wake up!
extinction is a very serious business!
not jus one animal had died
but the whole species!
once the whole species becomes extinct,
they will not come back
they will not be seen ever again
they will be gone forever...
Forever. no turning back. no amount of help given is able to save them
i dont want the tigers to be extinct
but reality is staring right back at me
if we dont do anything
if the government dont do anything
if the officials dont do anything
the is a high possibility that the tiger WILL become extinct
by then
we cant do anything
anymore
we cant save them
it will be too late
by then....
i was upset, angry and very afraid
afraid that the tigers will be extinct
afraid that no one is helping them
afraid that i wont be able to see my favorite animal again.
9 subspecies of tigers 3 of which r extinct
1)Bengal tiger
2)indochinese tiger
3)malayan tiger
4)sumatran tiger
5)siberian tiger
6) south china tiger
7)bali tiger (extinct)
8)javan tiger (extinct)
9)caspian tiger (extinct)
for the remaining 6 subspecies
3,000-3,600 of them still lived in 13 different countries
in the wild
it's a very very small number for 6 species of tigers
amur (siberian) tigers r thought to have only less than 400 of them in the wild
the rest, lesser though the bengal tiger have the most number.
i am talking about wild tigers here
there r many tigers in zoos or in captivity
but the number of wild tigers r declining
rapidly
But wild tigers n captive tigers still the same wad....
some of u may think this way
they r different
wild tigers
they have a very strong spirit
they belong to no one
they r confident, proud and majestic creatures
who will obey no one
who will not be broken like horses
who will not be tamed like dogs
they belong to the wild
it's rare nowadays to see
a creature like a wild tiger
they only rely on themselves
independent
proud
beautiful
majestic
strong
confident
they r my favorite animal
n i dont want them to become extinct
ask yourself
do you know about all this?
do you know how serious this is?
do you know that this is happening to many other endangered animals out there?
do you want to help them?
do you even care?
